Festival Fun in Skipton

As most of our BID members know, we’re big supporters of the many events and festivals happening here in Skipton. Each year there is a full calendar of activities to attract visitors and promote all the great things about our town.

The annual Skipton Waterway Festival took place last month at the Canal Basin, and has been entertaining visitors and residents alike since 2001. The festival is organised by BID member and family-run Pennine Cruisers, supported by volunteers from the community and local council.

Skipton BID provided financial support for the event which saw crowds of people pour into the town over the May Bank Holiday weekend (29 April – 1 May) to enjoy the experience which was officially opened by the Mayor of Skipton Town, Martin Emmerson.

Highlights from the festival included the illuminated boat parade on Sunday night and the privately owned canal boats which were creatively decorated with their owners even dressing up for the occasion.

The event coincided with Le Tour Yorkshire which was also a big tourist driver to the town. It made for an action-packed weekend in Skipton and a fantastic opportunity for local businesses.

We have some fabulous pictures of both events here…

Here is a list of other events, projects and activities supported by Skipton BID that take place throughout the year as well as pictures from those that have already happened. If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch.
