‘We had a fantastic time’ – Success as BID delivers Halloween events to support Skipton

The Skipton BID team were pleased to deliver a programme of Halloween events to encourage families into the town centre over the half term period.

In line with the Business Improvement District’s (BID) objectives and Business Plan, the team planned and organised both a trail and pop-up event to drive footfall into Skipton town centre.

A pop-up pumpkin patch was held on the Canal Basin on Wednesday October 29th, featuring a live actor scarecrow, hay bales and other spooky props to bring a traditional Halloween feel into a key town centre location.

Throughout the week, the BID worked with businesses around the town centre to create a ‘Monster Trail’ with 10 different ghosts and ghouls displayed in shop windows to encourage both local people and visitors around town.

Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID Manager, said: “We were delighted to once again deliver a successful programme of Halloween events to support our town.

“It was fantastic to see so many families gathered at the pumpkin patch after walking around town to complete the trail.

“We’d like to thank all of the local businesses that worked with us on the planning, organisation and delivery of this year’s Halloween schedule.

“We host a series of events across the year to help to drive footfall into Skipton to create a vibrant, welcoming destination.”

The Halloween events received very positive feedback from both local people and visitors, with one stating: “We went down to the patch and had such a great time! It was such a wonderful event – and the people were so lovely.”

Meanwhile, another added: “It was so cute! There were some wonderful activities and the people working there were so lovely.”

In total, it’s estimated that almost 1,000 people took part in the Halloween Monster Trail around the town centre – with many of these heading down to Canal Basin to visit the pumpkin patch on the 29th.

Data shows that visitors travelled from as far as Penrith in the north and Portsmouth in the south to take part in the Monster Trail. Meanwhile, other postcodes featured in the visitor list include areas of London, Milton Keynes, Macclesfield, Wiltshire and York.

Those that completed the trail and submitted the mystery passphrase were then entered into a competition, with a chance to win some top prizes.

The winners, Charlie and Freddie, were selected at random earlier this week and came to collect their themed prize package from the BID team in Skipton.

Skipton BID is now preparing for a fantastic festive period in the North Yorkshire town, with further details set to be announced over the coming weeks.
