Words grow with wildflowers in latest ‘Buzzing Skipton’ workshop to improve town centre
The latest ‘Buzzing Skipton’ workshop saw a group of young people get creative with poetry, planting and storytelling.
Following a successful application to the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund from the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, Skipton BID and The Artery are both excited to work alongside local partners to deliver the series of workshops as a part of the ‘Buzzing Skipton’ project.
Each of the sessions, workshops and improvements have been carefully designed to energise the town’s high street and enhance green spaces.
In the most recent event, words grew alongside wildflowers in Skipton town centre on Monday (November 3rd) during the Poetry & Storytelling session hosted at the Amphitheatre located behind the Town Hall.
The workshop, designed to inspire a community sculpture on the site, saw 10 young people from the SELA charity learning new practical skills while developing new planters in the area, followed by a creative writing session designing their very own poetry and stories.
Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID Manager, said: “It’s fantastic to now have the Buzzing Skipton project properly underway for the good of our town.
“Work has now fully begun on improving the five overlooked areas, carefully selected for their significance.
“It was great to see yet another well attended session. Each of the workshops held so far have been greatly receive and we’re looking forward to delivering more to bring a new lease of life into our town centre.
“Once again we would like to give thanks to the North Yorkshire Mayor’s funding stream, allowing us to continue to work on our mission to develop Skipton’s vibrancy, inclusivity and sustainability.”
The Business Improvement District (BID) and The Artery are pleased to be working alongside key local partners including Skipton in Bloom, Craven College, Craven Arts House and other community groups in the roll-out of this programme.
Details on the plans for the project can be found on the Skipton BID website and on the organisation’s social media platforms, where regular updates will be posted.
