Skipton BID delighted to win Silver Gilt prize at Yorkshire in Bloom Awards 2026
The Skipton BID team are pleased to announce that they were crowned with a ‘Silver Gilt’ prize at this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom Awards.
The Yorkshire in Bloom Awards are held on an annual basis to celebrate towns, villages and cities within the region that go the extra mile to create attractive, welcoming and well-maintained environments.
The judges visited Skipton in July this year to observe all of the floral displays and baskets around the town centre and the effort that goes into maintaining them from the BID, Stepping Stones, Skipton Town Council and partners.
The judges also learned of the £35,000 investment from the BID and The Artery through the ‘Buzzing Skipton’ project, enhancing previously overlooked areas of town. This project was made possible thanks to funding from the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.
Attending the ceremony in Tadcaster on Thursday (September 24th), Skipton BID Manager Sarah Howsen was thrilled to collect the award for the organisation.
Sarah said: “We’re honoured to receive this award. It’s great to be recognised for all of the hard work we do to make sure Skipton’s floral displays shine bright.
“After Skipton in Bloom disbanded earlier this year, we took on full responsibility of everything floral within our town centre – and we’re proud to say Skipton was full of colour over the summer!
“We’re pleased to fully fund all of the floral offer in Skipton and will continue to work hard to enhance and develop this every year.
“I’d also like to once again thank the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire for the funding opportunity. The Buzzing Skipton project has been a huge success.”
Yorkshire in Bloom recognises everything from floral displays and planting schemes to community involvement, environment responsibility and overall town-centre presentation.
The awards are a chance for places across the county to showcase their pride, creativity and commitment to ensure public spaces remain vibrant and inspiring.
Skipton BID is now looking ahead to next year, with the hopes of claiming further awards as the team continue to ensure the town remains a clean, welcoming and safe place to live, work and visit throughout the year.
