Step into nature with Buzzing Skipton as new trail showcases town centre wildlife

A brand-new trail will invite families to immerse themselves in nature in Skipton town centre, as a part of the Buzzing Skipton project.

The upcoming Buzzing Skipton Trail will feature different stops at key points around the town centre, offering the chance for those taking part to observe local wildlife and appreciate nature – all with an educational purpose.

To celebrate the official launch event on Saturday, July 25th, set to be held next to the canal on Coach Street, activities will be held including building mini insect houses and creating your own butterfly badge at Craven Arts House at the end of the Trail.

Skipton Business Improvement District (BID) and The Artery have worked with local partners to deliver the Buzzing Skipton project, as well as the organisation of the new trail.

Skipton BID Manager, Sarah Howsen, said: “We’re excited to bring this new trail into our town centre as a part of the overall Buzzing Skipton project.

“It’s a fantastic chance to explore what nature has to offer right here in Skipton, all while learning important information and following along with an interesting story…

“Once again we would like to thank the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority for the funding, helping to bring this brilliant project to life for the good of our town.”

The Buzzing Skipton Trail will feature audio clips, which can be listened to by scanning a QR code on signs located along the route. Follow the story of Bombus as you and your family complete different activities at each stop along the route.

Following the launch event, the trail will run for around two weeks, ending on August 9th.

Trail sheets can be collected from next to the canal on Coach Street or Craven Arts House on the day of the launch event. Then, for the following two weeks they can be collected from Craven Arts House or the Skipton Town Council Offices on Otley Street.

Completed trail sheets can then be posted into Craven Arts to be in with a chance of winning a prize. Please note, Craven Arts is only open between Thursday and Sunday. So, if it is closed, please post the trail sheets into the Skipton Town Council offices.

This new trail is a feature of the overall Buzzing Skipton project, designed to energise the town centre and enhance green spaces. The project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.
