Safer Streets Training
IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services), in partnership with North Yorkshire Horizons, are offering fully funded ‘Safer Streets’ online training places.
Online and interactive, training sessions (approx. 3.5 hours) will increase the knowledge and confidence of staff and volunteers to: understand vulnerability, indicators of concern, and how to take appropriate action. The training aims to keep our streets safer and reduce risk for those using our town and city in both the day and night time economy. The training compliments schemes such as Ask for Angela.
The training will cover:
- Vulnerability and indicators of concern.
- Domestic abuse, sexual violence, harassment and, drink and needle spiking.
- How to help a member of the public who is feeling unsafe.
- Safeguarding vulnerable people.
- Getting help and support.
Often, women and girls feel unsafe on our streets and in our communities, which can impact participation and limit opportunities. Safeguarding all children and vulnerable adults is everyone’s business and it is important to work together to make sure that everyone can safely enjoy the diverse range of leisure, cultural and entertainment activities in their area.
Research shows that over 80% of young women have been sexually harassed or physically threatened in public places and that more than half of all women will be subject to domestic abuse or sexual violence in their lifetimes.
Given these shocking statistics and following the horrendous murder of Sarah Everard, the government pledged to fund initiatives aimed at making our streets safer for women, girls and all vulnerable people.
The training opportunity is open to retail, licensed premises, restaurants and all businesses across Harrogate & District.
